Governors State University Foundation and Alumni Association scholarship funding recognizes academic excellence and is awarded to deserving students in their pursuit of a GSU degree. 

Scholarship offerings for any given year are determined from a large list of scholarships, each of which has its own criteria and funding level. In addition, the number and scale of scholarships vary from year to year, based on available funds.

Please review eligibility, criteria, and deadlines for scholarships carefully. Students are responsible for submitting online application including required documentation, (see Guidelines and Application below) for each scholarship, on deadline and accurately. Be sure to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. If required documentation is not submitted you will not be considered for the scholarship that is missing documentation.

    Fall 2020 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 7am Monday June 15, 2020

    APPLICATION DIRECTIONS:

    • Review criteria, eligibility & required documentation for each scholarship.
    • Write your essay.
    • Complete the application.

    ESSAY DIRECTIONS:

    • Put SCHOLARSHIP NAME as the header at top of EACH PAGE of essay.
    • DO NOT use your name or other specific personal identifiers in essay.
    • Essay topics vary by scholarship.

    RECOMMENDATION LETTER TIPS:

    • Request a few more than you are actually required to submit.
    • Request ASAP.

    Timeline for Awarding: Mid-September 2020 – Mid-October 2020

    • Winners will be notified by mail and email.
    • Scholarship funds will be posted to the student accounts after final drop dates.
    • If you have not received official notification by your tuition due date, you need to sign a tuition payment plan agreement and make the required payment. If you are awarded a scholarship after you've made a payment, overpayment, if any, will be refunded if scholarship award exceeds balance due.

    Awardee Requirements to fulfill:

    • Have photo taken for GSU Foundation marketing and fundraising purposes.
    • Submit a thank you letter to scholarship donors.
    • Possibly participate in the GSU Foundation events throughout the academic year.

    Additional helpful information:

    • Scholarship recipients may be asked to attend a scholarship event later in the year to meet donors
    • Financial need scholarships require a FASFA on file at the time of application.
    • Scholarships applied to tuition, fees and on-campus housing, unless otherwise stated in the criteria, up to the maximum award.
    • Unused funds will roll over to subsequent semesters during the same academic year, provided student continues to meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
    • A student can receive a tuition waiver & a scholarship up to but not to exceed cost of tuition and fees.  Unused funds will roll over as outlined in the paragraph above.
    • Scholarships are rescinded if student falls below the minimum required credit hours.
    • Employees of the university are not eligible.

    SPECIAL NOTE FOR OUR FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORE STUDENTS:  

    Freshmen and Sophomore students should apply for ANY scholarship that is not major specific which are posted in the General Scholarship Accordion section.  

    Freshman & Sophomore students are also encouraged to apply to any scholarship that relates to your intended major, even if you have not formally declared your major. You will be expected to include a brief explantion of this intention through your essay submission while also addressing the essay topic requested.

    Academic Advisors’ Scholarship  

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

     Eligibility:

    • Graduate, degree seeking student
    • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Financial need is not a criterion

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) describing your career goals, how you chose your academic program, and the impact that Academic Advising had on your education.

    Alumni Association Scholarship Honoring Rosemary Hulett

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking in good academic standing at GSU
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Minimum current cumulative GPA of 3.75
    • Must have financial need (FAFSA required) 

    Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 to 1,000 words) discussing your career aspirations

    Ronald Bean Community Service Scholarship 

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

     Eligibility:  Degree seeking in good academic standing at GSU

    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Demonstrate engagement in community volunteer services.
    • United States citizen.

     Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 to 1,000 words) demonstrating a history of and desire to continue volunteering in the community.
    • Two letters of recommendation from a volunteer organization

     DDP – Male Success Initiative

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a current Dual Degree Program student
    • Must be part of the Male Success Initiative program
    • Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA
    • Dreamers are eligible to apply
    • Scholarship is applied first to outstanding tuition and fees.  Any award over that amount will be applied to the GSU One Card

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) describing your academic/professional experience and goals, and how receiving this scholarship will help you achieve those goals.  Mention of your community service, extracurricular activities, and leadership skills is highly encouraged.

     Faculty Senate Student Scholarship

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

     Eligibility:

    • Must be a degree seeking student at GSU
    • Minimum 2.5 GPS Undergraduate; 3.0 GPA Graduate
    • Degree seeking student in good academic standing at GSU
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours undergraduate; 3 credit hours Graduate fall 2020
    • Financial need is not a criterion.  

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) outlining how you intend to use your GSU degree.
    • Letter of recommendation from non-relative answering how they know application and why applicant is deserving

    Donald W. Hansen Memorial Endowed Scholarship

     Award: $1,200 – multiple if funding available

     Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate or graduate student
    • Minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Minimum 15 hours of graded work at GSU within the two previous years.

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) describing your academic excellence and leadership abilities.
    • Letters of recommendation which attest to your academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

    Jassac Charitable Foundation Scholarship Honoring Lorine S. Samuels

     Award:           Book Scholarship often multiple $ amount & # awarded dependent on funding available

     Eligibility:

    • Must be an undergraduate degree seeking student
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 from GSU or most recent school
    • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • African American student preferred

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) outlining your career aspirations.

    Matteson Rotary Club 

     Award:           $500 – Multiple will be available # to be determined (based on available funds)

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a degree seeking student;
    • Preference shall be given to students who either (1) live in the service area of Richton Park, Olympia Fields or Matteson, IL. (2) have graduated from Rich Central HS, Rich South HS or South Suburban College Prep HS;
    • Must be enrolled in a min of 6 credit hours Fall Semester 2020;
    • Preference given to students demonstrating community service or employment restricting time for community service.  

     Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (250 to 500 words) describing career goals, how this award will impact his/her education and including areas of preference as shown above, if applicable.

     Francisco Montalvo Endowed Scholarship 

     Award:           - multiple available # awarded to be determined (based on available funds)

     Eligibility:

    • Must be a degree seeking student at Governors State University
    • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020 and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher
    • Hispanic or Spanish speaking student preferred
    • Must have financial need as evidenced by the current FASFA
    • Preference given to a student with interest in labor/union rights.

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) describing reasons for career choice.

     Jackie McKethen Scholarship for LGBTQIA Students

     Award:           $500

     Eligibility:

    • Must be a degree seeking student at Governors State University;
    • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020;
    • Must be a member of the LGBTQIA community or;
    • Must show significant assistance and acceptance toward the LGBTQIA community (as evidenced with 2 letters of reference attesting to participation) or have the reccomendation of the LGBTQIA Student Group
    • GPA will be considered if needed to choose between equally qualified applicants.

     Documentation Required:

    • 500 word essay showing commitment to LGBTQIA community. 

     Manilow Scholarship for Students Who Achieve Intellectual Excellence

     Award:           $500

     Eligibility:

    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 in any field
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Demonstrate academic excellence and determination to complete their degree.
    • United States Citizen and resident of Illinois
    • Financial may be considered

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) describing your candidacy and career goals and how your degree will benefit your career. Include a brief bio describing your educational and employment history and accomplishments as they relate to career goals.
    • Letter of recommendation from a GSU faculty member or administrator may be submitted. 

     Rich Township Community Scholarships

     Award:           $500 – 6 available for QUALIFIED applicants

     Eligibility:

    • Must live or work in Rich Township, Illinois
    • Must demonstrate in essay active military service, serve in the Reserves or National Guard, a veteran (or spouse of veteran), and need short term assistance.
    • Must be 22 years of age or older
    • Graduate or undergraduate degree seeking student at GSU enrolled in at least 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Not Eligible:

    • Rich Township officials or employees, or family members of officials or employees.

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (300 to 500 words) outlining their career goals.  Essay should include a description of your military category & short term assistance needed as listed above.

     Respond to Violence

     Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

     Eligibility:

    • Have been impacted by violence or are working in the community to address issued relating to violence
    • Degree seeking student at GSU
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (300 -500 words) describing why you should be selected, your future plans to work toward violence prevention, and how the scholarship will help in your educational pursuits.

    Second Chance Scholarship

     Award:           $500 – one available fall 2020

     Eligibility:

    • Must be an individual returning to society after a period of incarceration
    • Degree seeking student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Must be in good academic standing
    • Financial need as evidenced by the FAFSA

     Documentation Required:

    • Essay (300 -500 words) on how this scholarship will affect your career aspirations and how it will assist with your financial need.

    Dr. Daniel Bernd Endowed Scholarship in English Literature

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be seeking an undergraduate degree in English literature
    • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • Demonstrated commitment to, and genuine success in, the study of English literature.
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay One (1) page: biographical describing your commitment to the study of English literature.

    David Bernstein Endowed Scholarship in English 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a junior, senior or graduate level degree seeking student majoring in English or English Education or MA, can be a student obtaining an ESL certificate in a different major.
    • Minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) describing qualifications, emphasizing your contributions to the English division through classroom participation and tutoring. If obtaining your ESL certificate in a different major please address this in the essay.

    Drs. Lisa and Ming Chang Endowed Scholarship for Mathematics Education

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Junior or senior GSU Student who are specializing in Mathematics Education; OR
    • Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) graduate students with an area of concentration in Mathematics Education; OR
    • Returning teacher seeking an Elementary or Middle School Endorsement in Mathematics; OR
    • GSU degree seeking student in Special Education Program to be employed as a mathematics education interventionist; AND
    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; AND
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words):  Discuss your reasons and passion for your chosen career

    Chuck Klaas Memorial Scholarship

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Degree-seeking student majoring in Communications/Digital Learning/Media Design
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good academic standing
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Must be a United States Citizen

    Documentation Required:  

    • Essay (500 words) including any information about yourself, your academic/professional/personal goals, financial need, and any other information you deem pertinent

    Master of Public Administration Scholarship

    Award:           $500

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking student enrolled in the MPA program at GSU. 
    • Good academic standing with a minimum 3.70 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Earned at least 21 hours of credit in the MPA Program at GSU

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (1 or two pages) describing how he/she expects to benefit from a Master’s in Public Administration degree.

    Dr. Lowell W. Culver Fellowship in Public Administration 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a graduate student in Public Administration
    • Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 words) addressing how an MPA from GSU will be a benefit to a career in the public sector. Finalists must show promise in their selected career.

    Dental Personnel Placement Service, Inc. Community Service Scholarship

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a transfer student from Prairie State College’s Dental Hygiene Program
    • Must be seeking an undergraduate degree in Science
    • Must be a degree seeking student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:  

    • Must submit a letter of reference for volunteer service, preferably in the dental field
    • Submit a 500 word essay on why you chose your field of study

    Dr. Katherine Gavin Scholarship

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility: 

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student  majoring in the field of Science or Health
    • Minimum 3.0 (undergraduate) or 3.25 (graduate) cumulative GPA in good academic standing
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • United States citizen
    • Must demonstrate financial need. 

    Documentation Required: 

    • Essay (300 to 600 words) outlining your commitment to a career in the field of science or health and give rationale for selecting the career.  Include any volunteer community service(s) performed.
    • Two letters of recommendation from non-family member.

    Stephen R. Hyzny, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

    Award:           $750 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a female student
    • Minimum 2.0 GPA
    • Degree seeking student in Information Technology
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1,000 words)  describing how you plan to use your degree

    Mathematics Student Teaching Scholarship

    Award:           $1,000

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking or Mathematics Certificate student. 
    • Enrolled in EDUC 4999 course or be approved for Student Teaching
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours fall 2020
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA of 3.0
    • Mus be a United States citizen.

    Documentation Required: 

    • Submit a copy of your essay (two pages – 1” margins) that was submitted for admission into the student teaching program that describes your Philosophy of Education, Mathematics Education. This paper reflects your beliefs about teaching and learning as developed during your coursework and during the student teaching experience. Your essay will be reviewed from the aspects of GSU Professional Education Unit’s conceptual framework addressing areas of knowledge, skills, and dispositions included in your paper. Your beliefs about mathematics teaching will also be reviewed.

    Ralph R. and Dolores Turner Endowed Scholarship in Interdisciplinary Learning 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be an African-American student, at least 30 years in age
    • Undergraduate degree seeking student in good academic standing with major in Interdisciplinary Learning
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Substantiate an active commitment to, and involvement in, community service.
    • Must be a resident of Illinois and a United States citizen

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) documenting commitment to, and involvement in, community service.
    • Letters of support may be submitted from a professor.

    Rosie Mae Riley Book Scholarship

    Award:           $250 – one for text books fall of 2020

    Rosie Mae Riley was a mother, grandmother great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many who all loved her dearly.  She was a staunch supporter of education and believed strongly that it was the key to changing one’s life.

    Rosie was a frequent patron at many arts and culture performances at GSU with her family. 

    To celebrate Rosie’s life and pay tribute to her passion for education and the arts, this scholarship was established by Merri Wilkerson and family in 2018. 

     

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking student enrolled in Theater and Performing Arts program or incoming freshmen with an interest in Theater and Performing Arts   
    • Enrolled (or about to enroll) in a minimum of 6 credit hours
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Preference given to 1st generation African American female student, but not required.

     

     Documentation Required:

    • Submit a 500 word essay on why you chose your field of study 

    Not Eligible:

     

    • Community Honors Scholars 
    • Employees of the University, excluding students receiving financial aid or state funds

    American Logistics Association Endowed Scholarship 

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate and graduate COB students in pursuit of a career in logistics, marketing, business management, or accounting; or IDSS students with a minor in business, marketing, accounting or communications.
    • Must be a veteran, active in the military, federal civil service employee, or be a dependent of a veteran with an honorable discharge or a dependent of a federal civil service employee.
    • Must be a member of a household within a 50-mile radius of Chicago.

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) covering observance of restrictions, experience in logistics, business management or accounting, and academic/career aspirations in logistics/supply chain/distribution related field. Address your connection to the veteran, military or civil service community.
    • Two letters of recommendation from a GSU faculty member and/or administrator, or from employment supervisors

    Dr. Curtis J. and Mrs. Gina Crawford Endowed Scholarship in Business 

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking student pursuing a business career
    • Preference given to MBA students, but undergrads will be considered
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • United States Citizen and resident of Illinois
    • Financial need will be considered but not a determinant.

    Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) documenting work experience (if any), commitment to the field, career plans, reason for choice of major, and qualities that prove eligibility, etc.
    • A letter of recommendation from a GSU faculty member or administrator.

    Donald Dolan Endowed Business Scholarship 

    Award:           $500

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate or graduate COB business administration degree seeking students
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Good academic standing at GSU or prior school
    • Financial need is a criterion as evidenced by FAFSA on file
    • United States citizen and resident of Illinois

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 words) discussing career aspirations in the field of production and manufacturing.

    Donald and Helen Morrison Endowed Scholarship in Business

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Students must express an interest in a career involving an entrepreneurial role in business or industry.
    • Preference given to students interested in pursuing a career in retail business.
    • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student in good academic standing at GSU
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • US Citizen and Illinois resident

    Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) describing education and work experience, career goals, and how you plan to make a difference in the world.
    • Letter of recommendation from a counselor, administrator, dean, division chair, or a faculty member testifying to commitment and capability for entrepreneurship is required.

    The Wilbur L. Morrison Endowed Scholarship

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Course of study must be leading to a business degree.
    • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • US Citizen and Illinois resident

    Documentation Required:

    • Biographical essay (500 to 1000 words) indicating education and work experience, along with reasons to be considered for the award.
    • Letter of reference from dean, division chair or faculty member detailing student’s commitment to and/or experience in retailing.

    Scholarship for Finance or Accounting Students

    Award:           $1,000

    Eligibility:

    • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting or a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.
    • Undergraduate student in good academic standing at GSU
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Must be a United States Citizen and an Illinois resident
    • Financial need is a criterion as evidenced by FAFSA on file

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1,000 words) explaining your definition of ethical behavior as it relates to the finance/accounting fields.

  • College of Education Scholarships

    David and Barbara Barr Endowed Scholarship 

    Award:           $500

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Junior or senior GSU Student who are specializing in Mathematics Education; OR
    • Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) graduate students with an area of concentration in Mathematics Education; OR
    • Returning teacher seeking an Elementary or Middle School Endorsement in Mathematics; OR
    • GSU degree seeking student in Special Education Program to be employed as a mathematics education interventionist; AND
    • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; AND
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Dr. W. Prince and Elise McLemore Scholarship for Elementary Education 

    Award:           One at $500

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate or graduate elementary education students
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Must have completed at least nine hours at GSU
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Must be African American

    Ralph R. and Dolores Turner Endowed Scholarship in Education 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Must be a returning African-American student, at least 30 years in age
    • Degree seeking student in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Learning or Special Education
    • Undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Substantiate an active commitment to, and involvement in, community service.
    • Resident of Illinois and a United States citizen

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) documenting commitment to, and involvement in, community service.
    • Letters of support may be submitted from a professor in the division Elementary Education.

    Dr. Peggy Williams Memorial Endowed Scholarship 

    Award:           One at $500

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate elementary education majors specializing in reading/language arts
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Must be minority
    • Completed at least nine hours of coursework at GSU.

    Burton Collins Scholarships

    Award:           One at $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Enrolled in School Counseling Program
    • Must have candidacy, or completing candidacy, during the term of application
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Financial need is a criterion

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) addressing commitment to working with people, overcoming life’s obstacles, reason for financial need and clarity of career goals.
    • Two letters of recommendation are required, addressing the applicant’s suitability for a career in School Counseling, including qualities such as humor, perseverance, appreciation of diversity, and capacity for leadership.

    Dr. Judith A. Cooney Memorial Scholarship in Counseling

    Award:           $1,000 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Enrolled in School Counseling Program
    • Must have candidacy, or completing candidacy, during the term of application
    • Minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in minimum of 9 credit hours fall 2020
    • (If enrolled in less than nine credit hours (but a minimum of six hours) the award may be prorated and applied to the next term until fully expended.
    • Financial need is a criterion as evidenced by FAFSA on file

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) addressing commitment to working with people, overcoming life’s obstacles, reason for financial need and clarity of career goals.

    Trent Bartolomucci Foundation Scholarship

    Award:           One at $4,000 ($2,000 Fall and $2,000 Spring)

    Eligibility:

    • Graduate level degree seeking students in Masters of Addictions Studies program;
    • Minimum current cumulative GPA of 3.5 (at GSU or former college/university)
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Student must attend the annual Trent Bartolomucci Scholarship fundraising event (June 17, 2017)

    Marie Gray Bertz Memorial Endowed Scholarship 

    Award:           $500

    Eligibility:

    • Undergraduate women returning to school who have not enrolled at another institution for at least two years before coming to GSU

    Eligibility: 

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree seeking student  majoring in the field of Science or Health

    James and Helen Hassett, and Mary Ann Faitz Endowed Scholarship in Nursing 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    • Graduate or undergraduate degree seeking  student in GSU’s nursing program or Family Nurse Practitioner program
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020

    Annie L. Lawrence Scholarship

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Degree seeking student in the CHHS Physical Therapy program  
    • Minimum 2.5 (undergraduate) or  3.0 (graduate) cumulative GPA
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • United States citizen and resident of Illinois

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) describing your commitment to a career in the health professions, your work experience and/or academic background, and a brief biography

    • Submit an essay (500 to 1000 words) describing your qualifications.

    Monsignor Ignatius D. McDermott Endowed Scholarship 

    Award:           $500 – multiple if funding available

    Eligibility:

    • Preference will be given to students in Addiction Studies or Social Work, although any CHHS student is eligible.
    • Minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA at GSU or former school, and good academic standing
    • Enrolled in minimum of 6 credit hours fall 2020
    • Applicant must show personal goal of serving the underserved, preferably with work or volunteer experience.
    • Financial need is not a requirement but may be considered if demonstrated.

    Documentation Required:

    • Essay (500 to 1000 words) containing a brief bio, describing commitment to wanting to make a difference in society, volunteer experience,  and relating experience/career aspirations in the field of addiction and recovery, and financial need, if applicable.
    • Letters of support from faculty, administrators, and current or previous employers are encouraged.
