About the Program
The Greer Scholarship Program at Governors State University provides financial, academic, and professional development support to undergraduate students pursuing eligible STEM-related programs. In partnership with the Greer Foundation, the program offers renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 per academic year to eligible entering first-year and transfer students who demonstrate academic commitment, perseverance, and potential for success.
The program is designed to expand access to STEM education and support students as they persist toward degree completion and career success. The Greer Scholarship Program is open to all eligible Governors State University students, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender. The program welcomes students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Students interested in being considered for the Greer Scholarship Program are encouraged to apply for admission to Governors State University and complete the scholarship application process by the designated deadline.
Applications will open again in the summer of 2027

Greer Scholars receive:

Program Requirements
- STEM MAJOR: Be enrolled in an eligible STEM degree program
- FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT: Maintain full-time student status (12 or more credits)
- GPA ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher GPA
- FINANCIAL NEED: Complete the FAFSA application and demonstrate need
- MENTORING: Meet with a designated Greer Mentor at least once per month
- ENGAGEMENT: Participate in Greer Scholars events and outings
