In honor of your service, GovState accepts a wide variety to education benefits for veterans, survivors, dependents, or service members.
Whether you are a veteran, survivor, dependent, or service member, you bring a wealth of experience to your college career and enrich the experience of those you contact. Visit our Veterans Resource Center to see all the resources we have to support your success at GovState.
If you have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of college credit, you will start GovState as a freshman.
If you're entering Governors State University with more than 24 college credit hours, you'll join us as a transfer student.
Individuals holding a Bachelor's degree and seeking to advance their studies are encouraged to apply to Governors State University as graduate students.
Admission for freshman applicants is available for the fall and spring semesters. The transfer program admits students for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Graduate students should refer to the academic catalog for the permissible entry terms for their specific major.
The application fee for veterans and service members is waived. This fee waiver does not, however, apply to the following programs:
Masters
Communication Disorders
Occupational Therapy
Doctorate
Physical Therapy

Electronic transcripts can be sent to apotranscripts@govst.edu. In order for them to be considered official, they must be sent to GovState directly from the issuing institution.

To have your military transcript sent to GovState, follow the links below. All transcripts will be forwarded directly to the office of the Coordinator for Veterans and Military Personnel.

After completing the application process, please follow these steps to prepare for course registration:
Our School of Extended Learning provides assistance to active duty military in the form of distance learning courses. Service members have the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree by combining their military academic credit with previously completed college credit.
