    A non-refundable $50 application fee is required at the time of application.

    Please note that certain degree programs may have additional fees.

    All applicants submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions to the Office of Admissions.

    International applicants are required to have their official transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Visit www.naces.org/
    members.html to search for an evaluation service provider.

    Document Retention

    Please note that all documents submitted to Governors State University for admission purposes become the property of the university. Documents will not be released to students nor will they be forwarded to other educational institutions or agencies.

    At GovState, many of our Master and Doctoral degree programs require additional documents and credentials to be considered for admissions. Please refer to your desired degree program for any special admissions requirements.

    Evaluation and Processing
    All application materials must be in by the deadline or your application will not be reviewed. Please check with your academic program for a timeline of the admission process. You will be notified by US Mail once a decision has been made.

    Letter of Admission Decision
    After your application has been processed, you will receive a letter from the Office of Admissions with your admission decision.

    University Admission Requirements

    To join a graduate program at Governors State University, applicants must meet our general university standards alongside any specific criteria required by their chosen major.

    General University Criteria

    Before your term of enrollment begins, you must meet the following baseline requirements:

    • Earned Bachelor’s Degree: You must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or be on track to complete it prior to your first semester).
    • Good Academic Standing: You must be in good standing at the last institution you attended.
    • Official Transcripts: You must submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities to the Office of Admissions.

    Program-Specific & Supplemental Requirements

    Because graduate admissions vary by field, you must also satisfy the unique requirements of your specific college or department. Depending on your program, you may be required to submit supplemental materials such as:

    • Standardized test scores (GRE or GMAT)
    • Professional or academic letters of recommendation
    • A personal statement or statement of purpose
    • An updated professional resume or CV

    Graduate Studies

    Applicants applying for a graduate program must satisfy the requirements for their specific major, which may include college-wide and/or major-specific criteria.

    Optional Test Scores

    Refer to your degree program requirements if any additional test scores are needed to complete your application.

    Academic Standing

    Applicants must have been in good standing at the last institution attended.

    Transcripts
