Freshman applicants to Governors State University must provide an official high school transcript or GED, have an unweighted GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and have earned fewer than 24 college credits. Applicants can also submit their official ACT and SAT scores, but it is not required to apply.

To enroll as a freshman at GovState, you must have earned fewer than 24 college credit hours since earning a high school diploma or earning a GED.
Applicants are required to have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
All applicants are required to submit official high school transcripts or GED. Students with college credits are also required to submit official transcripts from all colleges previously attended.
Transcripts can be sent to the Admissions Office.
ACT and SAT scores are optional for GSU admission. To submit scores for consideration, use GovState's ACT School Code (1028) or GovState's SAT School Code (0807).

Applying to Governors State University as a freshman starts with an online application and an application fee. You'll need to send in your official high school transcripts, and meet the minimum GPA requirement. ACT and SAT scores are optional to submit.

There is a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Students who meet low-income guidelines may submit an Undergraduate Application Fee Waiver Request Form and send it electronically to admission@govst.edu.

International applicants are required to have their official transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Document Retention
Please note that all documents submitted to Governors State University for admission purposes become the property of the university. Documents will not be released to students nor will they be forwarded to other educational institutions or agencies.
Once all required admission documents have been received, your application will be processed.
Students who have applied by the early decision deadline of November 1 will be notified by December 1 of their admission decision. Completed applications received after November 1 will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and students should expect an admission decision within 3-5 business days. You will be notified of your decision by way of letter or email from the Office of Admission.
