Title IX at GovState

"No person in the United States shall, based on sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal assistance ..." Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. § 1681.

Governors State University does not discriminate based on sex, and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by state and federal law (including Title IX and its regulations), including in admissions and employment.

GovState is committed to maintaining a community in which students, faculty, and staff can work and learn together in an atmosphere free of all forms of unlawful sex discrimination (including sexual harassment) and retaliation. Such misconduct violates the dignity of the individual and the integrity of GovState as an institution of higher learning and, thus, will not be tolerated.

The Comprehensive Nondiscrimination Policy and Title IX Procedures

Following its obligations under Title IX and state law, GovState has adopted and implemented a comprehensive nondiscrimination policy that lays out the foundations of GovState’s Title IX compliance program: the ANTI-SEX DISCRIMINATION (TITLE IX) POLICY, also known as Policy 78.

Further, GovState has issued Administrative Procedures, broken into five parts, for the implementation of the Title IX compliance program laid out in Policy 78.

Anti-Sex Discrimination (Title IX) Policy - Policy 78

Policy 78 prohibits all forms of sex discrimination, including all forms of sexual harassment, including quid pro quo harassment; hostile environment harassment; sexual violence (such as sexual assault); dating/domestic violence; and stalking.

Title IX Procedures, Part C - Response Procedures
