Types of Financial Aid
Financial Aid can come from a variety of sources—including the federal and state government, private organizations and associations, employers, and your institution (Governors State University).
Financial aid is generally divided into two main categories: Gift Aid and Self-Help Aid. Most financial aid offer letters include a combination of both categories to help make your education more affordable.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is financial assistance that you do not have to repay. It's often awarded based on financial need or academic merit. It includes:
