Student Support Services
Governors State University (GovState) is committed to the success of its students, offering a comprehensive suite of services designed to support them academically, personally, and professionally. The Department of Public Safety ensures a secure and safe campus environment for all, providing emergency response and general security. For guidance and support in navigating university life, the Office of the Dean of Students acts as a central hub, addressing student concerns, promoting student conduct, and fostering a positive campus community.
Career advancement is a significant focus at GovState, facilitated by Career Services, which offers valuable resources like resume building, interview preparation, job search assistance, and internship opportunities to help students transition smoothly into the workforce. Recognizing the importance of mental and emotional well-being, Counseling and Wellness provides confidential support, counseling services, and wellness programs to help students manage stress, cope with challenges, and maintain a healthy balance.
Financial accessibility is crucial for many students, and the Financial Aid office is dedicated to assisting students in understanding and securing funding for their education through grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs. For those embarking on their university journey, New Student Programs offers orientation and transition support to help incoming students acclimate to campus life and academic expectations. GovState also proudly supports its diverse student body through the International Students office, which provides specialized advising and resources to assist international students with visa matters, cultural adjustment, and academic integration.
Furthermore, the GSU4U initiative plays a vital role in addressing barriers to student success, offering targeted support and resources to ensure all students have the opportunity to thrive. Finally, GovState is committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive environment, with the Title IX Office dedicated to preventing and addressing sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, ensuring a safe and respectful learning and working environment for everyone. Together, these departments form a robust network of support, empowering GovState students to achieve their full potential.
