Transfer Students in a Classroom

Transfer Process

Transfer Students are a priority for Governors State University.

The Transfer Process has several steps and paths.

GovState has the following resources for prospective students to provide a clearly defined pathway for degree completion.

For Newly Admitted Students, the transfer process is through the GovState Degree Audit Process.

  • Once a student has been admitted, the transcripts are entered into our Student Information System (Colleague) through Perceptive Content, there is a comparison to the existing transfer credit rules.
    • If the course is in Colleague, then it is automatically added to the student's Degree Audit.
    • If the course is not in Colleague, the course is routed for evaluation.  Evaluation is done within 3 business days.
  • Newly admitted students then meet with their academic advisor to review student planning and discuss the time to completion.
  • If a student would like to request a re-evaluation for specific transfer courses, they must obtain a syllabus for the course in question and submit that to their academic advisor.  The syllabus will be initially reevaluated by the Degree Audit team and if there is a question, then it will be routed to the program coordinator and division chair for the appropriate program.  This reevaluation could take up to 3 weeks for review.

For a Currently Enrolled Student who are seeking to take additional courses at a community college, they must receive approval from their academic advisor to ensure that the course(s) will transfer prior to enrolling.  Upon completion, the student must send an official transcript and it will go through the Degree Audit process.

For Currently Enrolled Students who are participating in the Reverse Transfer Process, please see the Reverse Transfer website for specific information.
