BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Robbin Mitchell serves as a Graduate Academic Advisor at Governors State University, supporting graduate students within the College of Business and the College of Education and Human Development. With more than a decade of experience in higher education, she is committed to advancing student success through comprehensive academic advising, degree planning and completion, retention initiatives, and personal and professional development. Grounded in a holistic, student-centered approach, Dr. Mitchell works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and university leadership to help students navigate academic pathways, overcome barriers to degree completion, and achieve their educational and career goals. Her work reflects a strong commitment to creating inclusive, supportive learning environments where graduate students feel valued, empowered, and equipped to persist toward graduation.
Dr. Mitchell earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Interdisciplinary Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Leadership. Her doctoral research, Navigating Cultural Bias and Self-Worth for Black Women Leaders in Higher Education, examines the lived experiences of African American women leaders as they navigate cultural bias while cultivating self-confidence, self-care, and leadership identity. Her scholarship contributes to broader conversations surrounding leadership development, belonging, organizational culture, equity, and the experiences of historically underrepresented professionals within higher education. Beyond academic advising and scholarship, Dr. Mitchell contributes to institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement at Governors State University, including participation in work supporting the university’s Higher Learning Commission (HLC) review process. Her professional interests intersect academic advising, student persistence, leadership development, institutional effectiveness, and equitable practices in higher education.
Through advising, scholarship, service, and leadership, Dr. Mitchell remains committed to helping students recognize their potential, confidently navigate higher education, and transform educational achievement into meaningful personal and professional advancement.
