Communication, B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Governors State University examines how messages shape relationships, organizations, and public life. Students study communication theory alongside practical skills such as writing for media, public speaking, digital communication, and strategic messaging. The program allows students to focus their studies through concentrations such as human communication or strategic communication, giving them the flexibility to tailor the degree toward their career interests.

Through collaborative projects, presentations, and applied coursework, students develop the ability to communicate clearly, analyze audiences, and craft messages across platforms. These skills are essential for careers in media, marketing, organizational communication, and public relations. Graduates leave the program with strong writing, analytical, and interpersonal communication abilities that are valuable across industries and professional settings.

At Governors State, the BA in Communication lets you turn your passion for effective communication into a meaningful career. You’ll explore how messages shape culture, influence decisions, and build relationships in business, media, and community settings. With hands-on projects, real examples from industry, and opportunities for internships and leadership, you’ll graduate ready to communicate with clarity, creativity, and impact across platforms and audiences.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Governors State University offers a range of financial aid options to help undergraduate students make their degree more affordable, including federal, state, institutional, and private funding. To get started, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using GovState's school code (009145). The FAFSA determines eligibility for grants, loans, work-study programs, and many scholarship opportunities.

Grants, including the Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), are awarded based on financial need and do not require repayment. Federal Direct Loans provide borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest after graduation.
