How to Apply

Governors State University's MBA program does not require GMAT or GRE scores for admission. To apply, submit the following materials:

  • Official transcripts confirming completion of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references, such as faculty members, supervisors, or community leaders
  • A current resume outlining academic and professional background
  • A two-page statement of intent addressing career goals, reasons for pursuing the MBA, and commitment to completing the program. Applicants to the online format should also address experience with online learning, time management, and remote collaboration.
  • A specialization selection at the time of application for students applying to the face-to-face program. Available specializations are Finance, Leadership, Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, and General Management.

After Admission

Once admitted, students must apply for candidacy after completing 9 to 15 graduate credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA and satisfying all prerequisite and foundation course requirements.

Financial Aid for Graduate Studies

Governors State University (GovState) offers a range of financial aid options to help students make their degree more affordable, including federal, state, institutional, and private funding. To get started, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using GovState's school code (009145). The FAFSA determines eligibility for grants, loans, work-study programs, and many scholarship opportunities.

Grants and Loans

Grants, including the Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), are awarded based on financial need and do not require repayment. Federal Direct Loans provide borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest after graduation.

The College of Business offers academic credit internships approved by the Division Chair and supported by College of Business faculty. Internships provide hands-on, on-the-job learning where students apply field-specific technology skills and professional terminology while adapting to real workplace environments.
