Addictions Studies, M.H.S.

Substance use disorders affect far more than the individuals experiencing them. The impact extends to families, loved ones, and communities through strain on healthcare systems, law enforcement, and educational and occupational environments. As the number of people affected by substance use and addiction continues to grow, so too does the demand for skilled, licensed substance abuse counselors and prevention specialists.

Governors State University's Master of Health Science in Addictions Studies prepares graduates to lead in addictions prevention and treatment. The program curriculum is fully accredited by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA), equipping students with the skills and professional background needed to meet the evolving needs of clients and their communities.

Qualified students may also pursue the criminal justice internship option, which fulfills the requirements for the Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional credential.
