CEHD Accreditation

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) has two major, nationally recognized accrediting bodies:

  • The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
  • The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

In addition, the Family Development Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation. 

CACREP Accreditation

At Governors State University, counseling programs are strengthened through accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), which promotes professional competence through rigorous preparation standards, encourages excellence in program development, and ensures the quality of professional preparation programs. 

The master's degree has specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage/Couple/Family Counseling, and School Counseling. The doctoral degree is in Counselor Education and Supervision

CAEP Accreditation

At Governors State University, all programs in the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) unit are strengthened through evidence-based accreditation through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), which ensures program quality and supports continuous improvement to enhance PK-12 student learning. In April 2025, GovState EPP received reaffirmation of full accreditation for initial licensure and advanced level endorsement programs.

NAEYC Accreditation

Committed to excellence in early childhood education, Governors State University's Family Development Center has achieved Accreditation+ from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the highest accountability tier, reflecting sustained quality, continuous improvement, and strong outcomes for young learners. 

The Family Development Center serves as a lab site for the Early Childhood Education teacher preparation program.
