WRITING CENTER INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, The Writing Center will offer appointments by phone or video conferencing through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. To meet with a consultant over the phone, students must first make an appointment on WC Online. A phone and PIN will be listed on the consultant's page. The day before the session, please email a copy of your paper to gsgrowl@govst.edu (no Google Docs or PDFs, please). In the subject line, write "PA with" and the consultant's name (ex. PA with Thomas). At the time of your appointment, call 571-392-7650. Enter the PIN listed on your consultant's page in WC Online and you will be connected. Each phone appointment lasts forty-five minutes. Please call at the scheduled time. Students who do not call after fifteen minutes will be considered a no-show.

Mission Statement

The Writing Center provides students the resources necessary to become confident, effective writers and self-directed learners. We accomplish this task through encounters with students that focus on organization, content development, argumentation, proper formatting, and citation in their written work. The Writing Center helps students at every stage of the writing process and encourages them to view writing as a craft they must master through revision, reading, and perspective. Ultimately, our goal is to help students use writing as a skill that can inspire their lifelong learning, career advancement, personal fulfillment, and civic engagement.
