Monday, 8/28

  • Welcome Back! CSEIP Open House, Jaguar Den (A2140), 11am – 1pm
    • Welcome to GSU! Stop by to learn how you can become involved outside of the classroom, meet Center for Student Engagement & Intercultural Programs staff and enjoy complimentary lunch, games and giveaways.
  • Get Money! Scholarship Opening Day, Hall of Governors, 12pm
    • Come learn about upcoming scholarship opportunities available to GSU students.
  • Are You Engaged? CSEIP Meet & Greet, Hall of Governors, 4 – 6pm
    • Enjoy snacks and treats before heading to class! Also learn about future campus events and student leadership opportunities from Center for Student Engagement & Intercultural Programs staff. 

Tuesday, 8/29

  • GSU Barber & Beauty Shop, Center for Performing Arts, 12 - 3pm
    • The GSU community will get to take full advantage of free haircuts and beauty maintenance, courtesy of the John Amico Beauty College during the first week of classes! Inquiries? Email cseip@govst.edu.
  • International Mix & Mingle, Engbretson Hall, 1 – 3 pm
    • The International Mix & Mingle is open to all GSU students and faculty members. Stop by for a chance to make friends from all over the world! Enjoy Icebreaker games, music, prizes and food! 
  • Find Your Focus at the GSU Library, GSU Library, 2pm
    • At GSU Library we understand how distracting and complicated life can be when you're trying to focus on your studies- and we can help with that! Join us for a library tour and discover everything we have to offer, from quiet and private study spaces to a galaxy of learning and research resources, we can help you succeed, stay focused, and get your work done
  • Natural Hair Panel Discussion, Hall of Governors, 3:30pm
    • Join us to celebrate the unique stories of Black women and their natural hair journey. There will be a panel discussion focused on natural hair and the positive and negative encounters that Black women experience based on wearing their hair in the natural state.

Wednesday, 8/30

  • Psychology Club Trivia, Engbretson Hall, 1pm
    • Come flex your knowledge of Psychology and the GSU Psychology department. Meet Psychology Club leaders and compete against friends and MAYBE EVEN FACULTY!! Prizes awarded and bragging rights!
  • Student Employment & Part-Time Job Fair, Hall of Governors, 2 – 4pm
    • Hear about Federal Work Study and Regular Student Employment opportunities on campus from hiring managers in GSU Departments.
  • Dual Degree Program (DDP) Back-2-School Social, Hall of Honors, 2:30pm
    • Opportunity for current DDP and GSU students to mingle, grab a snack to or from class, and win prizes!


Thursday, 8/31

  • Secretary of State Mobile Unit Services, Engbretson, 10 am – 3 pm
    • The Secretary of State’s Mobile Unit returns to offer the following services at Governors State! Drivers license and State ID card (renewal, replacement, corrections), Vehicle sticker sales, and more! No appointment required. Check, Debit/Credit cards only. No Cash, please.
  • Welcome Week Block Party & Greek Life Fair, ‘D’ Main Entrance, 2 – 5pm
    • Meet student leaders, join a club or organization and enjoy games, a live DJ, food trucks and more!
  • Greek Life 101, Engbretson Hall, 6pm
    • Students will engage in discussion about the importance of Greek Life and the benefits that come with joining these organizations.
  • Chicago Southland International Film Festival’s Bingefest 2023, F1622, 7pm
    • Enjoy a fun evening of short film screenings from past festivals for students with pizza, popcorn & soda!

Friday, 9/1

  • Jaguar Empire: Entrepreneurship Meet-Up, Engbretson Hall, 12 – 2pm
    • This event is a meet up for all GSU entrepreneurs! Join this panel discussion to learn how to expand your business or to get your ideas off the ground! 
  •  Food for Thought: Your GSU Food Pantry, A1115, 3- 4pm
    • It is especially important that all students have access to a steady supply of nutritious food. Stop by the GSU Food Pantry to familiarize yourself with this important campus resource. Every meal is a bridge to academic success!
  • Welcome Back Bash, E Lounge, 10pm – 2am
    • End the first week of classes with a party! Complimentary admission for GSU students with a valid GSU ID. 18+ Guests of GSU students - $10. Sounds by DJ Swerve. Hosted by Black Student Union.
