This exciting week of virtual events offers dozens of events, including the President's Convocation Celebration, a week-long Scavenger Hunt, Magic Show, Zoom Toons, Student Club/Org Fair, Part-time Job Fair and more!

Monday 8/31

  • Welcome Back Scavenger Hunt, 12 – 2 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.
    • Join the chase! Take part in GSU's largest week-long, campuswide, scavenger hunt by downloading the GooseChase app. Every Governors State student, staff and faculty member is eligible to play. Login info will be sent to the campus community via email once the game is launched. Participants can chose to complete all the missions or only some. Missions will be available until 11 p.m. on Friday, September 4th via the GooseChase appThe Student Activities Council will be checking all submissions to ensure they are accurately accomplished. Winners will be notified via their GSU email by Friday, September 11th.  The participant with the highest points-after adjustments- will be awarded the following prizes:

      • 1st place: $75 Visa gift card
      • 2nd place: $50 Visa gift card
      • 3rd place: $25 Visa gift card

  • Real magic for real people......Witness this amazing magic show featuring Ran D'Shine. He has performed nationally and wowed President Barack Obama at the White House. Following the event, Ran'D will teach a few tricks using his unique style of magic! This event is FREE and open to the GSU community. Show is live-streamed via Zoom.  Kaleidoscope Meet & Greet, 1 p.m. via Zoom

    • Learn what it means to get involved beyond just membership.  Attendees will gain a better understanding of community service and civic engagement and how to make positive choices for the Governors State University community and beyond.

     

  Film Fest Teaser, 2 - 3 p.m.

  • Join Josh Young and Suzanne Patterson, co-chairs of GSU’s Chicago Southland International Film Festival, for an informal look at the film festival concept from submissions to pre-screening & judging to audiences and awarding! A brief overview of this year’s festival content will be included as well as a screening and discussion of two of our 2019 Official Selection short films.

    • Share your funniest quarantine video with the Jaguar community! Send it in and we’ll post them to our Instagram story (@GSU_CSEIP) & on FB Live (GSUCSEIP). Videos accepted via email only. Winners notified via GSU email by September 11th.

Convocation 2020
  • Convocation Celebration, 1 p.m.       
    • President Cheryl Green will deliver a virtual State of GSU report during Convocation 2020, kicking off the 2020-21 academic year. The ceremony, a longstanding tradition, will also include the hallmark presentations of Excellence and Service awards to faculty and staff. In a new twist to help welcome the new president, a student will interview Dr. Green in a fireside chat-style conversation. Click here to participate. 
     International Culture Organization

International Mix n' Mingle, 3 – 4 p.m. 

  • This event is for GSU students to meet each other, share their diverse backgrounds and build friendships. We encourage both international and domestic students to join. This is also a great chance to learn more about the Office of International Services (OIS) and the International Culture Organization (ICO) student club. We will post a link to the virtual event on our website two days prior. Simply click on the link at the time of the event and we will be happy to welcome you! 

 Virtual Involvement Fair, 4 – 6 p.m. 

  • Looking to get engaged on campus? Come out to the Virtual Student Involvement Fair to learn about Governors State University's student clubs/organizations as well as various leadership departments that have leadership and Involvement opportunities for students.       • From the comfort of your residence hall, home or outdoors, come get a preview of the GSU Dance Company as we teach a snippet of our upcoming Spring 2021 dance showcase: "50 Years of Women's Empowerment." We'll lead a mini warm-up in preparation of the choreography ahead. All current and new students are invited to join the Welcome Back Dance Celebration! No dance experience required.  Zoom log-in provided here
