  1. Purpose

Governors State University welcomes former students who have lost continuing student status to return to complete their degrees. This policy provides clarification on the curricular requirements for students who are readmitted.

  2. Definitions
    1. Readmission is defined as the process through which any former student is re-admitted to GovState to complete their degree after having lost continuing student status
    2. “Continuing students” are defined as students whose enrollment at GovState has not been interrupted for more than 6 consecutive semesters/terms in succession (including summer). (See Policy 32, “Continuing Student Status.”)
  3. Curricular Requirements For Readmitted Students
    1. Any degree-seeking student (undergraduate or graduate) readmitted to the University is subject to all admission requirements, university-wide degree requirements, and major and/or minor requirements in effect at the time of readmission.
    2. Programs can set deadlines through the curriculum process for the use of previously earned credits.
    3. For graduate students, the timelines for completion, as listed in Policy 16 (Graduate Studies Policy), may not be extended unless an exception is approved by the Provost’s Office.
    4. Exceptions for students to complete the requirements of an earlier catalog, based on recommendation of the program coordinator, require written approval from the Provost (or designee), the dean of the college and department/division chairperson of the program in which the student is enrolled.
