The mission of Greek Life at Governors State University is to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members of the Greek community. We are dedicated to promoting academic excellence, leadership development, social responsibility, and service through meaningful activities and events. Our commitment is to create opportunities that empower students to grow, achieve, and contribute positively to the campus and surrounding community.

Greek Life at Governors State University is home to a diverse and growing community of fraternities and sororities. Each organization brings its own rich history, values, and traditions, while working together to promote leadership, scholarship, service, and lifelong connections.

Members of Alpha Psi Lambda

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Upsilon Rho Chapter

As the first historically Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has a legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, and service dating back to its founding in 1908. The Upsilon Rho Chapter at GovState continues this proud tradition by empowering women to lead, serve their communities, and uphold the highest standards of excellence.

Alpha Psi Lambda National, Inc. – GovState Affiliate Chapter

Founded in 1985, Alpha Psi Lambda is the nation’s first and largest co-ed Latino-based fraternity. The GovState Affiliate Chapter carries forward its mission of promoting leadership, scholarship, and unity, while embracing diversity and inclusion. Members of Alpha Psi Lambda are committed to academic success, cultural awareness, and meaningful service.

Alpha Phi Omega – GovState Affiliate Chapter

Alpha Phi Omega is a nationally recognized co-ed service fraternity founded in 1925, built on the principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. At Governors State University, Alpha Phi Omega promotes campus involvement, personal growth, and meaningful community impact through service initiatives that strengthen both the university and surrounding communities.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a historically African American sorority founded in 1922 at Butler University, dedicated to service, leadership, and academic excellence. The chapter at GovState was chartered in Spring 2026.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Mu Theta Chapter

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a historically African American sorority founded in 1913 at Howard University, committed to scholarship, service, and social action. The Mu Theta Chapter was chartered in 1975, established at Governors State University in 2006, and reactivated in Spring 2026. The chapter continues to serve the campus and surrounding community through programs focused on education, empowerment, and civic engagement.
