Biography

I serve as a University Lecturer/Instructor, Supervisor of K–8 Clinical Experiences, and Secondary Education Coordinator at Governors State University. With more than 20 years of experience in education, my work spans K–12 and higher education, with a focus on science and STEAM education, curriculum and program development, teacher preparation, culturally responsive instruction, and the Next Generation Science Standards.

I am also the Founder and CEO of After the Peanut, an organization dedicated to expanding access to hands-on STEAM learning, mentorship, and career pathways for youth in under-resourced communities. My work allows me to connect educator preparation, community partnerships, and workforce pathways to create meaningful learning opportunities for students and future educators.

Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, I am a combat veteran who served as a Military Police Officer in the Illinois Army National Guard, including deployment to Iraq and Kuwait. My commitment to public service has also included serving as a school board president and as a two-time elected member of the Will County Board.

Throughout my career, I have been recognized as a National Geographic Educator of the Week and TED-Ed Innovative Educator. I have also served as a South by Southwest EDU mentor and panelist, National Science Teaching Association presenter, and Illinois Science Assessment writer.

Across my work in higher education, K–12 education, nonprofit leadership, and public service, I remain committed to strengthening educator preparation, expanding access to high-quality STEAM education, and creating pathways that connect education to opportunity for students and communities.
