BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Karen Williams Blackman is an interdisciplinary higher education leader whose work spans strategic marketing and communications, institutional strategy, educational technology, artificial intelligence, and student success. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Interdisciplinary Leadership, Higher Education Administration concentration from Governors State University.

Drawing on extensive experience in strategic communications, public administration, behavioral science, and organizational leadership, Dr. Williams Blackman brings a multidisciplinary perspective to higher education. Her work includes institutional communications, strategic reporting, brand and audience development, stakeholder engagement, and translating complex institutional priorities, data, and initiatives into clear and accessible narratives.

Her professional interests increasingly focus on the intersection of educational technology, artificial intelligence, communication, and organizational change. She is particularly interested in AI literacy, responsible and ethical AI adoption, workforce readiness, curriculum innovation, and the role of human judgment and critical thinking in technology-enabled environments.

Dr. Williams Blackman’s doctoral research examined the influence of culturally responsive support spaces on the sense of belonging and academic persistence of African American alumni at a private predominantly White institution. Her research drew on Critical Race Theory and Validation Theory to explore how culturally responsive environments can shape student experiences and long-term development.

Across her work, Dr. Williams Blackman is committed to connecting strategy with practice and to creating approaches that strengthen communication, expand opportunity, and help institutions respond thoughtfully to change. Her work reflects a continuing interest in the intersection of people, technology, leadership, and institutional transformation.
