Employee Labor Relations
The Employee Labor Relations (ELR) team is dedicated to the success of our GSU employees. We provide consultation and support on employee relations and labor issues.
Civil Service employees at Governors State University are employed in accordance with the State Universities Civil Service Act, 110 ILCS 70, which governs all of the public institutions of higher education, in the State of Illinois.
The ELR team provides guidance on the application and interpretation of university policies.
GovState has six Collective Bargaining Agreements that represent various employee groups. CBAs outline the terms and conditions of employment, including benefits, wages, working hours, and grievance procedures. ELRs role is to ensure that work centers adhere to these agreements, striving to create a supportive and equitable work environment.
The University Professionals of Illinois (UPI) represents the Unit A and Unit B faculty as well as all academic support professionals.
The International Union of Operating Engineers represents the employees classified as Steam & Plant Operators (III, IV).
Teamsters, Local 743 represents all Maintenance Laborers at GovState.
GovState's police, sergeants and telecommunicators are all represented by Metropolitan Alliance of Police.
Building Service Workers across campus are represented by Local 743, Service Employees International Union.
There are many civil service positions represented by Teamsters.
