An official QM workshop intended for faculty who have never taught an online-only or hybrid course before, who may have taught but never designed their own original online-only or hybrid course, or who need to convert an in-person course to an online-only or hybrid format, the “Designing Your Online Course” workshop includes an overview of the QM Rubric and provides a framework for participants to design an online course plan. An integral element of the workshop is the exploration of the eight General Standards of the QM Rubric, focusing on learning objectives and overall course alignment. Participants will complete a Course Development Plan identifying areas of their current courses where they can make possible improvements for the benefit of students. Daily participation in this 2-week long workshop is encouraged but all activities are asynchronous, so participants can interact with the workshop on their own schedules as long as they are meeting submission deadlines. The result of completion will be a Certificate of Attendance issued by Quality Matters that faculty can then use as proof of participation in professional development activities.

An official QM workshop intended for faculty who have taught online-only or hybrid regularly in the past, or who have just recently taught their own originally designed online-only course for the first time, the “Improving Your Online Course” workshop explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online-only or hybrid courses. Daily participation in this 2-week long workshop is encouraged but all activities are asynchronous, so participants can interact with the workshop on their own schedules as long as they are meeting submission deadlines. Disclaimer: Instructors who were urged by necessity into teaching courses in a remote-only or hybrid format that otherwise would have been taught face-to-face due to COVID conditions does not count as previous online-only or hybrid teaching experience and/or online-course design experience for the purposes of QM-related professional development.

Faculty Guest Speaker, Matt Cooney, will share how Digital storytelling is a pedagogical technique that integrates student engagement, high-level reflection, and technology tools as a way to enhance student learning on a desired topic. This type of project is consistent with the calls for high-level reflection and analysis of theories associated with both college student development (Patton et al, 2016) and teaching and learning theories (Merriam & Bierema, 2017); however, it can be utilized in a variety of disciplines. This workshop will introduce the concept of digital storytelling, show how it has been implemented in a graduate seminar, and discuss strategies to implement the project in your classes.
