3-D Animation and Modeling, Minor
The Minor in 3D Modeling at Governors State University introduces students to the creation of digital three-dimensional forms and environments, building skills in visualization, design, and digital production. This minor allows students to explore the process of designing and constructing digital objects, environments, and visual assets while complementing their major field of study. Through coursework in modeling techniques, digital design tools, and visual development, students gain an understanding of form, space, texture, and composition within virtual environments.
Designed to enhance a wide range of academic and creative pathways, this minor strengthens skills in spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and visual communication. It is especially valuable for students interested in fields such as digital media, game design, animation, architecture, and product visualization, while also supporting those who want to expand their creative and technical skill set in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Career Outcomes
A minor in 3D Modeling supports a variety of career paths by strengthening skills in digital design, visualization, and creative problem-solving. These abilities are valuable in roles that involve producing visual content, developing digital environments, and communicating ideas through three-dimensional media:
- 3D Modeler – $60,000–$90,000
- Multimedia Artist / Animator – $99,000 (median)
- Game Artist / Environment Designer – $65,000–$95,000
- Industrial Designer – $75,000 (median)
- Architectural Visualization Specialist – $65,000–$90,000
- Motion Graphics Designer – $60,000–$85,000
