Governors State University is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), which allows students to follow a general education core curriculum (GECC) that transfers smoothly from over 100 participating schools into all of the undergraduate programs at GovState. General Admission Requirements

  • 24 or more semester credit hours of college coursework
    If you have earned less than 24 hours you must apply as a freshman
  • A 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Provide official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.

Please note, some programs have their own application deadlines and require higher GPAs and/or additional materials for admission.

Apply

 

Begin the process by creating a GovState account. Once your account is created, the system will prompt you to select an application for admission. Select the undergraduate application.

Submit your application fee, official transcripts, and any optional supplemental materials as your program of study requires.

Application Fee

A $25 nonrefundable application fee is required at the time of application.

Official Transcripts

Arrange to have all official* college transcript(s) from schools (currently and/or previously attended) sent directly to GovState.

*International applicants are required to have their official transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Document Retention

Please note that all documents submitted to Governors State University for admission purposes become the property of the university. Documents will not be released to students nor will they be forwarded to other educational institutions or agencies.

Undergraduate Programs with Special Admission Requirements

 

If you are applying to the Social Work (BSW) undergraduate program, you are required to submit additional documentation. Visit here for more information on these program requirements.

Admission Decision

 

Credentials Evaluation

Once you have submitted all required application materials for the program for which you applied, please allow 5-7 business days for evaluation and processing.

Some programs have application deadlines. If your program has an application deadline, the evaluation process may take longer. You will be notified once a decision has been made via email and U.S. mail of the admission decision.

Letter of Admission Decision

After your application has been processed, you will receive a letter from the Office of Admissions with your admission decision.
