Shahid Family Scholarship

 

Husn Bano Shahid was a devoted mother, wife and also practiced being a good Muslim. She was married to Prof. Shahid M. Dardai (2001 Distinguished Professor at Richard J. Daley College, City Colleges of Chicago). Husn Bano Shahid always emphasized on "excellent education, giving charity, hard work and community service" to her children.

The Shahid Family Foundation Scholarship was established to honor Husn Bano Shahid by her son Aslam (Sam) Shahid, who is currently a professor at GSU. The scholarship will be established in perpetuity for students with designated majors in the College of Arts & Sciences at Governors State University.

Students may apply for the scholarship through the Governors State University Foundation.

Eligibility:

  • Computer Science, Mathematics, or Information Technology 
  • Undergraduate students 
  • GPA is 3.0 or above 
  • Financial need is considered

Documents Required:

  1. Applicants will be required to submit an essay (500-1000 words) describing any personal information, academic, professional, or philanthropic goals that the applicant deems pertinent.
  2. Please discuss your major choice and career goals. Why did you choose you major? What are your career goals? What do you intend to do with your degree? What is preventing you from seeking higher education? Why is this scholarship important to you? In your opinion, what is the impact for technology in our contemporary society? 

Award Information:

One award of 1,000 dollars in Fall semester.

Note: Award amounts may vary based on funding, availability, and addition, if any, to principal. Amount awarded shall not exceed tuition costs.
