Dr. Daniel Bernd English Literature Scholarship

In 1970 Dr. Daniel Bernd joined the GSU staff as Director of Academic Development. Later he served as Assistant Dean of the College of Cultural Studies and was Coordinator of the Liberal Education Center, and taught English courses.

Dr. Bernd received a scholarship to the University of Nebraska and he always dreamed of being able to establish a scholarship for English Literature. In 1994 after Dr. Patterson’s Death, Mrs. Bernd Patterson fulfilled Dr. Bernd’s dream by establishing a scholarship in his memory.

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Professor Daniel Bernd. The purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize scholarly appreciation and understanding of English Literature among undergraduate English majors.
