What is WIOA?

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) helps job seekers access education, training, support services, and job search/placement assistance to succeed in the labor market.

This program is available through American Jobs Centers (AJC) across the Chicago Southland. Staff at the AJC will assist you through assessments, development of individual employment plans, career planning, job readiness training, occupational skills training, vocational training, on-the-job training, and more. All services are free.

Who is eligible for WIOA?

WIOA serves the following individuals:

  • • Recipients of public assistance
  • • Low-income
  • • Who are deficient in basic skills
  • • Laid off or terminated due to plant closure or mass layoff
  • • Unemployed through no fault of their own
  • • Self-employed individuals and displaced homemakers may also be eligible
  • • Priority is given to veterans or spouses who are experiencing the above
