I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure,
caring, and stimulating educational atmosphere in which to grow and mature
emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an
Advisor is to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by
providing an environment that is safe, supports independent thinkers, and
invites a sharing of ideas. There are three components that I believe are
conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the Advisor acting as a
guide/mentor, (2) allowing the student’s curiosity to direct his/her learning,
and (3) promoting respect for all people.

What is one piece of advice you have for students?
- Be kind and leave GSU and the surrounding communities better than you found it. Communicate with your advisor and instructors! Let them know how you’re doing. Prepare questions for them and visit them during their established office hours.
- Check your GSU email for important updates. Get involved with student activities: clubs, attend sports events, engage in student senate The Senate advocates for policies that benefit every student and supports 70 clubs and organization that can enhance the students’ college experience.
- Plan to get to know your advisor, instructors and/or professional staff members well and then you’ll have a solid group of people who can provide personalized support.
