Faculty Excellence Research Fund Honoring Dr. Larry McClellan
Honoring Dr. Larry McClellan: A Legacy of Research and Discovery
Governors State University is proud to recognize the indelible contributions of Dr. Larry McClellan, a distinguished historian, author, and one of the university's founding faculty members. As a Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Community Studies, Dr. McClellan's dedication to academic research has profoundly shaped our understanding of regional history.
For decades, his work has focused on the Underground Railroad, African American history, and the rich heritage of the communities south of Chicago. Dr. McClellan's commitment to scholarly excellence is demonstrated by his role as the principal researcher for successful applications to the National Park Service Network to Freedom, a national register of Underground Railroad sites. His efforts have helped preserve and illuminate these critical historical landmarks, ensuring their stories are not lost.
Dr. McClellan's legacy exemplifies the very mission of the Faculty Research Award. This fund was established to support faculty in producing impactful research and creative works that advance knowledge, foster cultural inclusivity, and demonstrate excellence in critical thinking.
This fund was created to provide monetary awards to faculty in support of research leading to publication of articles in refereed journals, books, and/or creative works (such as films, musical scores and compositions, choreography, plays) that demonstrate excellence in critical thinking and creativity that advances fields of knowledge, appreciation of the arts, and demonstrates cultural inclusivity that enhances the mission of Governors State University.
