STAFF PROFILE
Tomice J. O’Brien currently serves as the Coordinator of Student Success Initiatives within the College of Business at Governors State University. In this role, she leads the coordination of student mentorship programs, peer-to-peer support systems, and career development initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement and post-graduate success. Her responsibilities include overseeing signature events like the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Induction Ceremony, managing the GROW Series, and building strategic partnerships to increase student internship and job placements.
Prior to this role, Tomice served as the Coordinator of Admissions Events and Communications at GovState, where she led the Welcome Center, managed campus visits and recruitment events, and directed the Student Ambassador Program. She began her career at the university as an Admissions and Records Officer, building a strong foundation in admissions processes, data systems, and student services.
Tomice earned her Bachelor of Health Administration with a minor in Business Management from Governors State University and holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of Southern Indiana.
A dedicated student advocate and community builder, Tomice is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association (CIVSA), where she serves on the Region III Leadership Board, as well as the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). She also serves as a Senator and Recording Secretary on GovState’s Civil Service Senate.
In addition to her professional commitments, Tomice is the founder and advisor of Ladies of Virtue and Excellence (L.O.V.E), a campus initiative that empowers students through leadership and mentorship. She also shares her passion for mentorship and discipline as an Assistant Cheer Coach at Marian Catholic High School.
