STAFF PROFILE
Karen Blackman is a purpose-driven leader whose academic and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to equity, education, and institutional transformation. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and she is currently completing her Doctor of Education (EdD) at Governors State University.
With a foundation in behavioral science, public systems, and organizational leadership, Karen brings a unique, interdisciplinary lens to her work in higher education. Her career has focused on bridging policy with practice, advancing inclusive leadership, and creating sustainable pathways for student and faculty success. Her current doctoral research explores the impact of code-switching on the professional identity and career advancement of mid-career African American women in public universities—work that blends Critical Race Theory, Black Feminist Thought, and leadership development frameworks.
Karen speaks with clarity, conviction, and a grounded sense of purpose. Whether leading institutional strategy, designing culturally responsive programs, or amplifying underrepresented voices, she centers people at the heart of progress and believes that when we honor lived experience, we create spaces where real change can take root.
