FACULTY PROFILE

"I have been a part of Governors State University since 2010 when I completed my Bachelor’s degree and then went on to the master’s program. I am currently the Clinical Coordinator for the Division of Psychology and Counseling at GSU. After completing the Counseling program in 2015, I recognized that my passion resonates with helping students through a vigorous program that I am familiar with and relate to. I work with the Psychology and Counseling students through the different milestones of their programs; candidacy, practicum, and internship. As an alum of this program, I can relate to students through the highs and lows of a robust master’s program.

I developed my love for travel while I was a student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling track through an opportunity to study abroad in Italy. There is no better feeling than to learn about another culture by living and experiencing it. Then the following year, I was also able to attend the American Counseling Association (ACA) Conference in Hawaii. Aside from meeting prominent scholars in our field such as; Dr. Gerald Corey, Dr. Debbie Joffe-Ellis, and bumping into our beloved Dr. Jon Carlson, a longtime Professor at GSU, I was blessed to have the opportunity to try scuba diving. I learned that travel is not only fun but a unique experience to learn about ourselves and others.

My advice to students is to be as active as you can during your time as a student, no matter your age. Take advantage of opportunities now, especially, since they may be free or discounted for students. Check out national professional counseling organizations such as; American Counseling Association (ACA), American Psychological Association (APA), American School Counseling Association (ASCA). Also, state organizations such as; Illinois Counseling Association (ICA), Illinois Psychological Association (IPA), and Illinois School Counseling Association (ISCA). The International Honor Societies; Chi Sigma Iota and Psi Chi are organizations that foster strong professional identities and quality for counselors, educators, and students. Look into working with faculty on research projects or become a graduate assistant to work closely with faculty while earning a stipend and tuition assistance.

You have made a valuable choice to consider GSU for your psychology or counseling degree program. Please fee free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or just to chat. Welcome!"
