EXPERTISE

Decision Making
Regret
Emotions

FACULTY PROFILE

Although emotions, negative emotions in particular, are an important part of rational thinking, the positive value of these negative emotions has received little attention from researchers. In theory, regret is typically considered as a negative emotion which calls for corrective action. However, recent research focuses on its preparative functions and reveals some conflicting findings.

Accordingly, with her main line of research, Dr. Karadogan examines the experience of regret and have pursued two main research questions to date: First, she focuses on the factors that affect the amount of regret experienced. Essentially, with this line of research she tries to understand the nature of this emotion: when and why we experience regret. Second, with her research Dr. Karadogan tries to investigate the function of regret: whether it is an emotion that we should avoid experiencing by all means or there is something good inherited in it which can motivate us for corrective action.
