Dr. Matthew Cooney joined the College of Education at Governors
State University in Fall 2017 as an Assistant Professor of Education in the
Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctoral (INLD) Program. As a core faculty member
in the INLD program Dr. Cooney teaches classes on leadership studies and in the
higher education administration concentration. As Dr. Cooney teaches fully
online he utilizes multiple learning tools to connect with students including
BlackBoard collaborate, VoiceThreads, Tiki-Toki, and Zoom meetings. He
transitioned into a faculty role after working in administrative roles in
higher education including student affairs; undergraduate education; and
institutional research and effectiveness.
Dr.
Cooney is in his third year as an assistant professor and has an active
research agenda that focuses on organization and governance in higher education
and contemplative practices in higher education. His work has been published in
the Journal of Research on the College Presidency; Journal of Higher Education
Research, Assessment, and Practice; and the Journal of Student Affairs Research
and Practice and he has presented at national and international conferences
including NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education;
Association of the Contemplative Mind in Higher Education; Association of
Leadership Educators; and the National
Academic Advising Association.
