WELCOME!

Founded in 1969 as an experimental model for transformative higher education, Governors State University remains a leader in academic innovation and excellence at the southern edge of the greater Chicagoland area. True to our founding values of equity and inclusivity, we continue to foster a vibrant, diverse community of students and faculty who are shaping a brighter future.

Our students—whether pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees—learn locally and impact globally. They become artists, entrepreneurs, teachers, and healthcare professionals who make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

The College of Arts and Sciences, our largest and most comprehensive college, reflects the breadth of human knowledge with programs ranging from Chemistry to the Classics. In the College of Business, students prepare to lead in the corporate world, enriched by partnerships with local industry leaders. The College of Education and Human Development and the College of Health and Human Services equip students with the skills to transform lives—right here in Chicago’s South Suburbs and throughout the region. Many of our graduates remain close to home, making a lasting impact on the health and well-being of their communities.

Whether aspiring to become a CEO or a Ph.D., students find support and inspiration in our Honors College, which helps them realize their fullest potential. For those pursuing advanced degrees, our College of Graduate Studies provides tailored strategies and support to ensure success.

At the heart of our academic excellence is a faculty of dedicated experts—leaders in their fields—who bring real-world experience into the classroom, preparing students to thrive in a competitive workforce.

The return on investment in a Governors State education is clear. With over 56,000 alumni living, working, and improving lives both near and far, our graduates fuel local and state economies and foster sustainable community growth.

A recent economic impact study estimates that Governors State University contributes $274.7 million annually to our region, including Metropolitan Chicago, Cook, Will, and Kankakee counties.

As we proudly celebrate 56 years of excellence and innovation, we look ahead with bold vision. Our commitment to culturally relevant programs and transformative education remains unwavering as we plan for the next 56 years and beyond.

On behalf of our Jaguar family, welcome to an exciting journey.
