The Honorable Debbie Halvorson was the 1st Woman Illinois Senate Majority Leader in the Illinois State Legislature where she served for 12 years. She went on to serve in the US Congress in Washington, DC for 2 years. She earned her BOG from GSU in 2001 and her Master in Communications and Training from GSU in 2003. She is past president of the Supply Chain Innovation Network and has been President of American Eagle Logistics for more than 10 years. She was an adjunct for GovState for 5 years and served on the Gala Committee for the GovState Presidential Investiture Gala in 2021.

Beth C. Boggs is the Managing Partner of Boggs, Avellino, Lach & Boggs, LLC, Missouri’s largest WBENC-certified law firm. A seasoned trial attorney, she specializes in civil litigation and has tried over 100 cases nationwide.

An Illinois SuperLawyer and Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, Beth has earned numerous awards, including “Lawyer of the Year” and the Trailblazer Award (2021). Committed to education, she funds multiple SIU law scholarships and is a nationally recognized speaker and author.

Dr. Natalie Coleman

Dr. Natalie Coleman is a servant leader dedicated to education, advocacy, and community impact. Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, she is the CEO of After the Peanut, a Will County Board Member, and a college instructor at Lewis University and Governors State University.

With over 15 years of experience in education, Dr. Coleman is passionate about shaping the next generation. A former Military Police Officer in the Illinois Army National Guard, she brings discipline and leadership to her work. Walking in her purpose, she continues to inspire through education, service, and innovation.

Janet Muchnik

Janet Muchnik earned her Master’s in Public Administration from GovState in 1981 and built a distinguished career in public service, including roles as City Manager of Country Club Hills (7 years) and Village Manager of Park Forest (10 years). She served on the National Board of the American Planning Association, chaired the Fair Housing Coalition, and led a Federal commission on the Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. A former School District 163 Board President and Park Forest Trustee, she remains active in missionary work, Rotary leadership, and the Tall Grass Arts Association, where she served as president for a decade.

Ernest Edwards is the President of U.S. Architectural Glass & Metal, bringing innovation and excellence to the industry. A Governors State University alumnus, he has built a successful career in architectural glass and metal fabrication, leading projects that shape the built environment.

Jeremy Joyce ('15), a proud Governors State University alumnus, transitioned from the corporate world to become the owner of Black People Eats, LLC, a successful digital marketing and advertising company. His passion for showcasing cuisine, especially from Black-owned restaurants, has gained him over 200,000 Instagram followers, making him a well-known advocate for the Black economy.

Dr. Airica Steed

Dr. Airica Steed is the CEO and President of The MetroHealth System, making history as the first woman and nurse in the role. A transformational leader, she drives health equity, financial growth, and system-wide innovation across a $1.7B health network.

With 20+ years of leadership, she has earned top accolades from Modern Healthcare, Becker’s Healthcare, and Diversity MBA Magazine. A Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and international speaker, she holds a Doctorate in Ethical Leadership (Ed.D.), an MBA, and a BSN, and is pursuing a Master’s at Harvard. Above all, she is a devoted mother of four.

Dr. Patricia Robey, a proud Governors State University alumna, earned her B.A. in Psychology (1994), M.A. in Communication Studies (1997), and M.A. in Counseling (2003) before completing her doctorate at NIU. Since joining GovState in 2003, she has advanced from adjunct to Full Professor, serving as Program Coordinator, Division Chair, and mentor to countless students. A respected scholar, Dr. Robey has authored numerous publications, presented globally, and held leadership roles with the Glasser Institute. Her dedication to education and mentorship continues to shape future professionals.

Myron Hester, a 2007 GovState graduate (M.A. in Educational Leadership & Administration), is the Chief of Schools for Network 17, supporting high schools on Chicago’s South Side. A former principal of Julian High School, he has over a decade of leadership experience in Chicago Public Schools, focusing on student success and community partnerships. A Chicago native, he also holds an Education Specialist Degree from Walden University.

Dr. Shaniqua Jones

Dr. Shaniqua Jones, known as Dr. J, is a global expert in Restorative Justice, dedicated to healing communities and breaking down barriers. A Governors State University alumna, she earned her Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership (Higher Education) in 2016.

Blending personal and professional experiences, Dr. J leads with authenticity and empathy, transforming lives through restorative practices and education.

Dr. Kim Snow, a proud GovState alumna (M.A. 2000), is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC), author, and founder of Beyond Healing Center. With 20+ years of experience, she specializes in trauma recovery, grief, couples counseling, addiction, and life transitions. A certified EMDR therapist and Reiki Master, she blends traditional therapy with mindfulness and empowerment.

Through Beyond Healing Center, Dr. Snow offers in-person and virtual counseling, known for her compassionate, client-centered approach.

With 25+ years in executive healthcare leadership, she previously served as President of Holy Cross Hospital and VP of Operations at Sinai Chicago. A GovState alumna, she holds a Master’s in Health Administration and a Bachelor’s from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Megan Wright is a licensed addiction and mental health counselor, certified peer, and tobacco treatment specialist with over 15 years in behavioral health. A Governors State University alumna, she specializes in recovery support, program development, and community engagement.

As Peer Support Manager at Recovery Beyond, Megan leads structured peer coaching programs, fostering individualized support and healing. Living with a rare neurological disorder, she embraces life’s challenges with the mantra: “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

Dr. Jennifer Groebner

Dr. Jennifer Groebner is a registered nurse, health administrator, and dedicated educator with over 16 years of teaching experience in higher education. She has served as a Program Director for five years, successfully leading curriculum improvements and increasing student admissions by 50%, while securing full re-certification from the AUPHA.

A skilled communicator, Dr. Groebner has built strong partnerships with field placement sites, enhancing student internship opportunities. Passionate about diversity and high-quality education, she is committed to preparing future healthcare leaders through best practices and innovative learning.

Roxanne Spurlark

Dr. Roxanne Spurlark is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Assistant Professor in Nursing with over 30 years of healthcare and leadership experience. As Associate Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, she specializes in emergency care and primary care for underserved communities.

A dedicated researcher and advocate, she has studied COVID-19’s impact on healthcare workers and Black Americans, promoting resilience in a post-pandemic world. Through compassion and expertise, she continues to drive healthcare innovation and community impact.

Laurie put her education on hold to raise her children, working tirelessly while supporting her son through cancer. She advanced at Franciscan Health Foundation but needed a degree to grow. Determined, she earned straight A’s at GovState, graduating in 2020, the same year her youngest finished high school. She was then promoted to Executive Director. A dedicated community volunteer, Laurie proves it’s never too late to achieve your dreams.

Lester (Van) Moody is a dedicated advocate for student success, committed to helping students navigate and excel in their college careers. A Governors State University alumnus, he earned a BBA in Finance and later obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership-Higher Education Administration from Chicago State University.

As a Retention Coach for General Studies students, Van provides guidance and support to promote academic success. A former student trustee, he remains passionate about mentorship, leadership, and higher education advancement.

Jenna Naser

Jenna Naser is a dedicated advocate with a strong background in supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Skilled in outreach, advocacy, event planning, and leadership, she is committed to empowering survivors and advancing women’s rights.

A Governors State University alumna, Jenna earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDSS) with a focus on Criminal Justice and Psychology. Passionate about justice and equality, she continues to make a meaningful impact in her community.

Megan Rodgers

Megan Rodgers, a GovState alumna, holds a master’s in Criminal Justice and is pursuing a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Studies. As Manager of Advocacy and Crisis Intervention at the YWCA, she leads sexual and community violence programs in South Cook and DuPage Counties. She chairs the South Suburban Cook County Sexual Assault Response Team and serves on multiple advocacy groups.

A dedicated researcher, Megan has presented on topics like restorative justice and domestic violence, with her latest work featured in Lake Como, Italy. She also serves on the Institutional Review Board at Prairie State College.

Dr. Addison Woodward

Dr. Addison Woodward, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Governors State University, served 34 years in academia, including 23 years as Chair of Psychology and Counseling. After retiring from GovState, he spent 10 years on the Illinois Board of Higher Education and joined the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability in 2015, advocating for social and economic justice. A dedicated SUAA leader, he continues to champion faculty rights and higher education policy.

Christine Cochrane

Christine Cochrane, a 1974 GovState MBA graduate, served 14 years as Director of the Small Business Development Center, supporting local entrepreneurs. She later led development efforts as Project Manager for the South Suburban Airport and served as Monee Township Supervisor. A licensed pilot, Cochrane’s expertise spans economic growth, education, and public service, leaving a lasting impact on GovState and the Southland community.

Dr. Dianne Galante

Dr. Dianna Galante, GovState Emerita, has dedicated 40+ years to advancing math education, transforming Governors State University’s Mathematics Program into a nationally recognized destination for aspiring teachers. A Faculty Excellence Award recipient, she pioneered the Mathematics Student Teaching Scholarship and an MS in Mathematics to help professionals transition into teaching. As she retires, her legacy continues through the students and educators she has inspired.

Dr. Larry McClellan, a founding faculty member of Governors State University and Emeritus professor, dedicated 31 years to sociology and community studies. A nationally recognized expert on the Underground Railroad, his research has led to multiple National Park Service Network to Freedom site listings. He has authored numerous works on Illinois history, including Onward to Chicago, which won the 2023 Memorial Prize for the Advancement of Knowledge. In 2022, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the field.

Tom Fuentes is a former Assistant Director of the FBI with a distinguished 29-year career in law enforcement. A Governors State University alumnus, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Business Administration, and Public Service Administration in 1978. Fuentes has served as a Senior Law Enforcement Analyst for CNN and held advisory roles with the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission. He is also a former Communications Director for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange. Currently, he leads Fuentes International, LLC, leveraging his expertise in security and law enforcement.
