Honoring James and Helen Hassett and Mary Ann Faitz

This scholarship was created by Mike Hassett, a retired long-time employee in the Facilities Development and Management Department. He, and other family members, established the scholarship to honor his parents, James and Helen Hassett, and his sister, Mary Ann Faitz, who succumbed to breast cancer in 1993 at the age of 41.

The Hassett Family has a long and proud history in medicine. The late Helen Hassett worked for many years coordinating Medical Records in several Chicago-area hospitals. Mary Ann worked as a nurse at Rush University Medical Center. Other siblings and family members have established careers in nursing, hospital social work, pharmaceutical sales, as well as Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapy professionals.

The Hassett family hopes to continue to honor and support this tradition by awarding the James and Helen Hassett and Mary Ann Faitz Endowed Scholarship in Nursing to students in the College of Health Professions.
