Governors State University offers a number of services for first-year writing students.
Writing consultants working in GSU’s Writing Center are available for one-on-one appointments in the Academic Resource Center (Room B1215) and for quick consultations in the library. The writing center also offers online submission of essays and a variety of workshops designed to help students become stronger writers. Please visit the Writing Center’s Web site for more details about these services.
Some sections of Writing Studies 1 and 2 are paired with Supplemental Instructors—peer mentors who are available to work with students during class and to meet with them outside of class. Supplemental Instructors work closely with the instructor for their assigned section, so they are familiar with the assignments and faculty expectations. They are a great resource for students who would like to perform at a higher level in these two courses.
