GSU is announces the next in our series of general education symposiums. Electronic portfolios will be the subject on Friday, April 4, 2014.
Dr. Kathleen Yancey, Kellogg W. Hunt Professor of English and distinguished research professor at Florida State University, is a nationally recognized expert on the topic of ePortfolios. She leads the Inter/National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research.
Join us as Dr. Yancey begins with an ePortfolio review (definitions, models, options), then shares her experience on their purpose and uses. She will then discuss the details of creating ePortfolios and how they can be used for both our students, faculty and staff.
The symposium will begin with a continental breakfast on the Center for Performing Arts stage at 8:30 a.m. The work will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served. After lunch, faculty and any interested staff will be encouraged to stay and dig more deeply into the topic – including how to help students create their own ePortfolios and how they can be used further in assessment. Dr. Yancey will also address the issue of rubrics used for a variety of evaluation purposes.
The use of ePortfolios is “a campus/community wide effort,” Dr. Yancey said. If GSU wants the “eportfolios [to] provide a site for integration of student learning, students will need support from all corners of the campus.”
