GSU’s Family Development Center has successfully created a Certified Wildlife Habitat™ as designated by The National Wildlife Federation. The NWF celebrates the efforts of the Family Development Center for creating a garden space that improves habitat for birds, butterflies, frogs and other wildlife by providing natural food sources, clean water, cover and places to raise young.

The GSU habitat is located near the entrance to the campus in the school garden. Erin Gutierrez, curriculum specialist for the Family Development Center, said certifying the garden as a wildlife habitat is a way for children to learn they can directly make an impact in their environment in a way that’s meaningful to them.

GSU’s habitat becomes one of more than 150,000 certified habitats nationwide. Such habitats are important to year-round wildlife residents as well as species that migrate.
