FACULTY PROFILE
Dr. Taylor Rogers is a decolonial feminist scholar and artist in Chicago. They currently teach as an Assistant Professor in Interdisciplinary Studies and Philosophy at Governors State University while pursuing other collaborative art projects. Dr. Rogers finished her PhD in Philosophy (with a certificate in Gender & Sexuality Studies) in August 2021 from Northwestern University, where they researched the role of emotional numbness in perpetuating oppression.
Dr. Rogers has presented their scholarly work at universities all over the country and has published in leading feminist philosophy journals. Their latest multi-media research project with Indiana-based cinematographer Lillian Walker, "NOA: A Music Film", explores the liberatory role of grief using philosophy, music, dance, poetry, cinematography, and more. It recently won "Best Film" at the Bloomington Indiana Film Festival.
They are also working on a book project which can be seen as the literary counterpart to the music film. Dr. Rogers has released three full-length albums to date (Taylor's Spotify), has toured nationally, and has performed in various Midwest festivals like Oberlin FolkFest and BAMfest, and most notably, on NPR's radio show Sessions at Studio A. Their art has had coverage from esteemed taste makers like Folk Radio UK, Chicago's Broadway World, Substream, and others. All of their work is inspired by themes of connection, of presence, and of embracing the depth of our emotional lives so necessary for collective healing.
