Governors State University Smoke-Free/Tobacco-Free Campus Initiative
In support of 110 ILCS 64/ the Smoke-Free Campus Act, as of July 1, 2015 smoking and any tobacco use is prohibited at Governors State University indoors and outdoors on campus, in university-owned vehicles at all times, and in all vehicles on or about campus property. Littering the remains of tobacco products or any other
related waste product on campus property is further prohibited.
Purpose: To provide a healthy environment that promotes and encourages the health, well-being, and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors at Governors State University by minimizing the negative effects of secondhand smoke; to improve safety; and to encourage a more sustainable environment.
Scope: This
policy applies to any individual on campus property, including but not
limited to students, faculty, staff, other employees, contractors,
subcontractors, guests, volunteers, visitors and members of the public. It is applicable twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
