2016 Theme: Small

The 2016 Art of Science Competition: Small will highlight the inherent beauty that exists at the interface between art and science. This juried competition is open to students, staff and faculty of Governors State University.

Details and Rules

  1. The 2016 Art of Science Competition: Small is open to all current students, faculty and staff of Governors State University.
  1. For 2016, submitted artwork will be limited to photographic images incorporating concepts related to the scientific theme: Small. Small refers to images of objects, natural events or other phenomena fewer than 2 inches in scale.
  2. There are no restrictions regarding image processing or composition.
  3. Submissions are limited to ONE entry per person.
  4. Images must be submitted in jpeg (.jpg) format. File sizes are limited to 5 Mb.
  5. Please include a narrative (one to two sentences max) that describes the photograph.
  6. Winners must submit and agree to provide a high-resolution image for printing and display purposes. Works may also be displayed electronically on the GSU website or other university venue.
  7. Artwork must be original, created by the contestant and not subject to copyright provisions of any other holder.
  8. No image will be accepted involving human subjects.
  9. Works created in violation of local, state or federal safety guidelines will not be accepted.
  10. Entries will be anonymously judged based on the following criteria:
  • Relationship between art and science
  • Visual impact and aesthetic value  
  • Adherence to theme

Submissions must be received by March 31, 2016.
