Performances

6:30 p.m. Kaben Kaf  – Djembe Drum Ensemble

Kaben Kaf, created by Taylor, is a djembe ensemble comprised of some of Chicago’s most studied and gifted djembe/dunun professionals, getting together to breathe deeply with the intricacies, complexities and depth that are part of the deeper recesses of djembe music. Come experience a unique concert and bring your djembe drum (or other percussion instrument) with you for a portion of the concert that will be interactive!

7:30 p.m. Mucca Pazza

Mucca Pazza is an intrepid interdisciplinary instrumental music ensemble who have made a name for themselves playing alarmingly danceable music. Their original music defies classification but influences range from surf to Stravinsky, from Bartok to Zappa, and from Esquivel to Ellington. In addition to blaring trumpets, slithering saxophones, clarinets, trombones, and tubas, the band boasts a drumline that seems to share a single nervous system, an entire section of disparate instruments that don’t belong anywhere near a marching band (electric guitars, accordion, violin, and yes, a cello), and contains within its multitudes a cheer squad that performs absurdist cheers and asymmetrical, impressively low-to-the-ground pyramids. Mucca Pazza: embracing the absurd, in solidarity with the improbable!
