Dr. Scheier joins Governors State University as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Stage and Production Management. She recently completed her doctoral degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She earned her MFA in Stage Management from the University of Iowa and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and the Stage Managers’ Association.

Dr. Scheier's scholarly work analyzes the complex relationship between the union that represents theatrical Actors and Stage Managers, Actors’ Equity Association (AEA,) and the stage management community from AEA’s founding to present day. Her research reflects on the ways that this relationship has irrevocably altered the field, for better and for worse, and has transformed U.S. stage management practices to be decidedly different than stage management in other parts of the world. Stage management history continues to unconsciously influence the stage management field today, which underscores the importance of knowing and understanding the field’s history so that contemporary stage management can undergo an anti-racist professionalization process to ensure that the future of the field is diverse and equitable for all. This includes rethinking how stage management is taught, redefining anti-racist stage management ideals and reconsidering stage management pipelines to broaden the future of the field.
