Opera & Beyond Fund

The Opera & Beyond Fund was inspired by one of the Center's original board members and opera aficionado, Inge Marra. The fund will ensure the continuation of classical vocal music, including the Opera Up Close series, as well as art songs, operetta and classical musical theatre. And of course, will ensure the continuation of operatic talent showcases from Chicagoland and beyond.

Thanks to Inge and Advisory Board Members, the Center established an anonymous donor who matched every donation and pledge dollar for dollar through April 1, 2021. Because of their efforts and the support from the community, the Opera & Beyond Fund has been ENDOWED!

Endowing the Opera & Beyond fund was the first of many important steps. We can now put our energies toward growing and nurturing the fund, and planning joyous community programs that bring the arts to all.

The Opera Up Close series premiered September 26, 2010. Since then, the series has offered south suburban audiences the opportunity to hear operatic music presented in new ways; through intimate settings, opera in English, opera for children, and presenting musical pieces with humor and energy. Opera Up Close invites audiences to experience classical music in unexpected and accessible ways, enticing them to fall in love with this beautiful art form. Seated on the stage with the singers, each audience member is able to hear up close and personal the power and the beauty of the human voice. From Mozart to Bernstein, the singers bring a wealth of experience and artistry to bear on a wide array of musical styles.

In the spirit of Respecting our Past and Reimagining our Future, we thank you for guaranteeing that opera will continue at the Center for the next 25 years and beyond.
