Now That You’re Admitted!

Congratulations and welcome to GSU’s Jaguar Nation! As an incoming freshman, you are an important part of the GSU community. We want you to start your college career on the right track. Please take the time to review the acceptance packet you received when you were admitted.

There are just a few more necessary steps to complete your enrollment:

  • Complete Your FAFSA


    The FAFSA will determine your eligibility for federal and state aid, in addition to any scholarships you are offered.  Be sure to include our federal school code (009145) when you submit your FAFSA.  The FAFSA must be completed each year you are enrolled and is available after January 1 for the following academic year.  Visit for more information.

  • Review Your Letter of Admission


    Your admission letter provides you with information you will need to access your MyGSU portal and new student email account.  Your letter will also provide information on any conditions that you may be required to meet.

  • Confirm Your Attendance


    We are excited for you to join Governors State University’s freshman class.  Please take a moment to let us know if you plan to attend GSU by selecting the Tell Us Your Decision button below.

  • Apply for Housing


    If you have decided to live on campus, you will need to submit a housing application.  Housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.  You can learn more information about housing and the process to apply at  Please note: A $25 nonrefundable application fee and $100 housing pre-payment (refundable, conditions apply) are required as part of the housing application process.

  • Sign Up for Orientation/Register for Classes


    In order to register for classes, all new students must participate in a mandatory one-day Orientation session.  These sessions take place on GSU’s campus.  For more information about signing up, please visit If you have any questions, please contact us at or 708-235-6819.

  • Send Your Final Transcripts


    Now that you are admitted, we will need your final high school transcripts with your graduation date posted.  If you have college transcripts, we will need final college transcripts with final grades posted that reflect good standing.

  • Classes Begin


    Fall classes start August 26, 2019. Students admitted to the Smart Start program will begin classes prior to the start of the semester on August 12, 2019.
