Computer Science Degree – Prepare for a Technology Career

A computer science degree prepares students for a wide range of careers in a technologically dependent world.  At GSU’s College of Arts and Science (CAS), students can earn a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Computer Science, a Certificate in Forensics or Information Security and a Minor in Computer Science.

Our undergraduate program is a balance between theoretical and applied study, and offers students the experiences to become experts in a range of subjects from website creation to networking problems.  The CAS labs are well-equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and students are given the opportunity to work with a team and the technology to create real-world solutions.

A Computer Science Degree Offers Many Career Options

For students interested in pursuing a computer science degree, they must meet all university requirements for a bachelor's degree and receive a “C” or above in a selection of upper-level courses as detailed online.  Along with the general study requirements there are 30 credit hours required in lower and upper-level computer science courses as well as two specific upper-level math and statistics courses.  The rest of the credit hours are taken from advanced electives. Please see the Computer Science web pages for more information and complete requirements.

GSU also offers a related degree in Information Technology (IT).  There, students can earn a Bachelor of Science in IT with course work that revolves around information security, digital forensics, virtualization, and cloud computing.  This program closely aligns with programs in Computer Science, Criminal Justice, and Management Information Systems so you can modify your degree to specific career goals.

Our Computer Science, M.S. is an applications-focused program with a software engineering orientation.  Students will be prepared to enter careers as software engineers in a range of settings that include business, industrial and government.  The master’s program also prepares students to pursue doctoral studies at other universities.
