The Intersection of Opera and Race

The first segment in our Beyond Conversation Series will feature seven Chicago-based opera artists sharing local, national, and global perspectives on navigating rigid racial boundaries in the opera industry while exploring solutions to enact change and equity.
This open and candid conversation concerning the state of race in opera and what it means to be an artist of color on today’s operatic stages will be moderated by John Concepcion*, curator and host of CPA’s signature Opera Up Close series, Lyric Opera tenor, and Center for Performing Arts Board Co-Chair. Other panelists are opera artists: Leah Dexter, Adrian Dunn*, Cameo Humes, Joelle Lamarre, Bill McMurray*, John Orduńa, and Vince Wallace.
