Here, you are encouraged to get involved in your new community of diverse, smart and interesting people that will make you glad you chose to become a Jaguar.  Welcome Week is a campus-wide celebration at the beginning of each semester. It's a great time for you to meet new friends and find out more about GSU.                  

Monday, January 15

  King Day Commemoration Program  

         The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Program is an opportunity for members of the Governors State University community and surrounding area to join thousands of Americans in honoring the work and legacy of Dr. King through community service.  Dr. Haki R. Madhubuti, Founder and President of Third World Press will serve as the Keynote Speaker. Gently used coats, scarves, gloves, and hats accepted for evacuees in Chicago who have been impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Sherman Hall, 10 a.m. 

Tuesday, January 16

  • Student Organization Involvement Fair - Want to get involved on campus but not sure where to start? Visit the involvement fair to meet representatives from over 80 student organizations. Get involved as soon as your first day on campus! Be sure to log-in to Jaguar Connection to learn more about student organizations and events taking place on campus. Hall of Governors, Noon - 4 p.m.                                                         
  • Secretary of State Mobile Services - Whether you need to renew your driver’s license or sticker, stop by the booth! Hall of Governors, 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.  
  • Coffee with a Counselor - Enjoy a hot cup of coffee and chat with a Counselor from the Counseling Center. A1120, 3 - 4:15 p.m. 

Wednesday, January 17

  • GSU Basketball-SPIRIT DAY – Wear your GSU t-shirt, hats, etc. today as the Jaguars basketball teams take on Holy Cross. Grab your family & friends and support GSU Athletics!  GSU students, faculty and staff gain free admittance with myONECARD. GSU Gymnasium,  Women's Game @ 5 p.m. & Men's Game @ 7 p.m.
  • Help Rebuild Texas Fundraiser - Build a cuddly friend for only $10 (includes shirt with GSU logo).  All proceeds support students traveling to support hurricane relief efforts during spring break.  Hall of Governors, 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Coffee with a Counselor - Enjoy a hot cup of coffee and chat with a Counselor from the Counseling Center.  A1120, 3 - 4:15 p.m.

  • Welcome Week After Dark - Have a blast with friends during the first week of class with a game of Glow-in-the-Dark Laser Tag, First Down Football, and capture your memories with a Photobooth picture.Participants MUST wear white or light shirts.  GSU Gymnasium, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.   

Friday, January 19  

  • Responsibility is LIT! – Peer-led discussion on the importance of responsible behavior. Prairie Place, 6 p.m., Pizza Served. Sponsored by the Student Activities Council.

Saturday, January 20  

  • GSU Basketball- vs. Robert Morris - Support GSU Athletics.  GSU students, faculty and staff gain free admittance with myONECARD. GSU Gymnasium, 1 p.m. - Women's Game & 3 p.m. - Men's Game. Non-GSU Admission: $5.00 for adults, $2.00 for children (under 12).

Monday, January 22  

  • National Drug & Alcohol Week - Visit informational tables to receive free resources on drug and alcohol use, abuse and addiction. Sponsored by Students of Addiction Studies Club. Hall of Governors, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  
  • Man-Up Mondays – Learn the benefits of becoming a member of the Male Success Initiative. A2110 - Conference Room B, 3 p.m.

Tuesday, January 23

  • Find the Attire to Get Hired! – Visit the Jaguar Den to update your professional look. The Jaguar Den (A2140), 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. 
  • Vision Board Party   Connecting Identity and Destiny. Bring old magazines and newspapers to create your personal vision board.  Food Provided.  The Jaguar Den (A2140), 6:30 p.m. 

 Wednesday, January 24

  •  Social Media Scavenger Hunt - Download the Corq app to learn where Student Life is hosting lunch today! Noon - 2 p.m.  Must show proof of download.
  •  Sex Signals - Program uses innovative methods to educate students on issues surrounding dating, sex and date rape on college campuses.  Facilitated by GSU Student Health Center staff.Engbretson Hall, 3 - 4:15 p.m.

 Thursday, January 25

  •  Open Mic Night - Come out and Rock the Mic! Showcase your talent and skills.  Lakeside Lounge, 6 p.m. Light refreshments provided.

 Friday, January 26

  •   Black-Out Bash - Party with the Community Service Council.  All proceeds support students traveling to rebuild Hurricane Relief efforts during Alternative Spring  Break. $3 w/valid GSU i.d. & up to two guests w/GSU student ($10ea).  Hall of Honors, 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Jaguar Connection

GSU Jaguar

The Jaguar Connection is a long-awaited tool that features student clubs, organizations, and events.  It's a place where students can start or join an organization, or make plans to attend an event.  Club leaders can gather contact information, share event dates, and post-election processes for all clubs and organizations. The site also makes it easy for clubs to communication with each other.
